International Spiritual Health Academy (ISHA) was set up by Swami Aparokshanand Saraswati Ji in the year 2002 with the primary objective to propagate ways and means enabling people to attain sound physical, mental and emotional health.

While continuing on his spiritual journey and doing meditation at Gangitri Dham, Swami Ji was seeking answers to many issues which crossed his mind such as
- What differentiates a living body from a dead body
- Are there any drawbacks in modern medicine and if there are
- Which is the best alternative therapy

After delving deeply on such issues Swami Ji recognized the importance of Prana Shakti, which can also be termed as Vital Life Force, and the crucial role a healthy mind can play in leading to all round sound health of an individual. In absence of Prana Shakti the human body becomes dead. Prana is a subtle part of the body. It has a visible aspect which is the air we breathe in and an invisible aspect, which is the energy that flows in the body and sustains it. It is responsible for our vitality and dynamism. Without Prana no being can survive and be alive. Prana also connects the gross body with mental body. Hence classical yoga recommends controlled breathing (Pranayama) to restrain the senses and purify the mind as well as the body. The smooth flow of Prana Shakti to all parts and organs of the body leads to sound health of an Individual. Conversely, any persisting disruption in the flow of Prana Shakti leads to disease afflicting corresponding parts and organs of the body. Recognizing the significance of Vital Therapy and Psycho Therapy in the treatment of people suffering from various ailments, Swami Ji teaches ways and means of sustaining and nurturing this Prana Shakti which can lead to sound physical and mental health of an individual.

The above insights and the experience of teaching and advocating Yoga-Abhyaas for several decades led to the conviction that most of the diseases can be fully cured with the help of drug-less alternative therapies. With this conviction Swami Ji was inspired to set up a centre (ISHA Retreat) at Rishikesh and the infrastructure of the centre has grown over the years. The centre is now equipped with modern facilities for various alternative therapies.
